page1image5612

Ulu Jelai Hydroelectric Project

The Ulu Jelai Hydro still in contruction and it is about
30% completed.

The main contractor of this Ulu Jelai project
is TM Salini Consortium. While the consultant
to this project is SMEC Malaysia.

Ulu Jelai Hydroelectric is expected to generate
372MW in the future.

The hydro project mostly will contribute a lot
to cater high cost of coal price and fuel price.

Even though the initial cost quite high to
setup a hydro project, but the return in the
long term is very  much in profit already since
it used water only to move the turbine in order
to generate electricity.

Target completion date will be early 2016.

Bataan Nuclear Power Plant - Philippines

Bataan Nuclear Power Plant is a nuclear power plant. It is completed 1979 but never been fueled.

It is located 100 km west of Manila Philippines. This plant has not commission due to some issues such:

1) It was build just near major earth quake fault line and close to Mount Pinatubo

2) Lots of defects revealed (4000 defects exist)

The cost to build up reached $US2.3 billion. The Bataan Nuclear Power is designed to generate 621 MW of electricity.

I have no idea what it will be today. A museum or what? No info. Later on will update if any.

Excitation - Magnetic

Excitation (magnetic)

An electric generator or electric motor consists of a rotor spinning in a magnetic field. The magnetic field may be produced by permanent magnets or by field coils. In the case of a machine with field coils, a current must flow in the coils to generate the field, otherwise no power is transferred to or from the rotor. The process of generating a magnetic field by means of an electric current is called excitation.

Vegaflex 86

Level measurement up to +450 °C with new guided wave radar VEGAFLEX 86
Refractory ceramic and stainless steel combined with the latest level measurement technology –
that’s the new VEGAFLEX 86. Developed for extreme industrial applications, this GWR sensor
measures liquids safely and reliably up to an operating temperature of +450 °C and a process
pressure of 400 bar.

Master of all classes
VEGAFLEX 86 is ideal for level and interface measurement of liquids. It delivers accurate and reliable
results even in extreme temperatures from -196 to +400 °C and process pressures from -1 to +400
bar – in steam boilers as well as in bypass tubes or standpipes. Thanks to its ability to measure
products with a minimum dielectric constant of 1.4 and higher, its application range is virtually
unlimited.

Product selection and setup made easy
The versions with cable, rod or coaxial probe and standard process connections such as threads from
G1½ A (1½ NPT) and flanges from DN 50 (2") allow installation on any container or tank. The
electronics versions are 4 ... 20 mA/HART, Modbus, Profibus PA and Foundation Fieldbus – to
ensure simple connection to any process control system. In addition, the single and double chamber
housings of plastic, aluminum and stainless steel make it possible to create an instrument version
suitable for any process environment.

Setup wizards and new, intelligent signal processing functions also facilitate setup and commissioning
and ensure stable, accurate readings. Since it was developed according to
IEC 61508, the sensor meets the requirements of SIL2 and SIL3, when deployed in homogenous
redundancy. A welded, gas-tight feed through (Second Line of Defense) brings additional safety to
facilities handling hazardous materials. Last but not least, the standard approvals for explosion
protection in gas and dust, for example ATEX and FM, round out the selection options.

VEGAFLEX 81 – the new TDR sensor for liquids Some Guided wave

Guided wave radar for level and interface measurement of liquids
The next generation of VEGAFLEX TDR sensors are on their way to SMM. The new 80 series
devices combine powerful hardware, smart electronics and robust mechanics into one single unit.
VEGAFLEX 81 is the flagship for reliable level measurement in liquids.

VEGAFLEX 81 is suitable for level and interface measurement in all liquids – in slop and deck tanks
as well as in bypass tubes or standpipes. Operating in temperatures from -20 to +200° C and process
pressures from -1 to 100 bar, the sensor ensures accurate and highly reliable measurements. As a
member of the plics® family, it combines all the advantages of VEGA’s service-proven sensor
concept: available in rod, cable and coax versions.
Cost savings right from the start.

The guided wave radar sensors are delivered ready calibrated. A quick-start function guides the user
through the relevant settings in a few easy-to-follow steps. Through a simple adjustment in the
electronics, the sensor can output level or interface signals.
New features for safer operation.

The intelligent signal processing automatically detects changes in process conditions and adjusts
itself dynamically to them. This enables reliable overfill detection and dependable measurement under
difficult process conditions. The automatic probe end tracking function allows measurement of media
with a dielectric constant of less than 1.6. Integrated memories for measured values, events and echo
curves provide information on all important sensor and process conditions.
For applications in toxic or hazardous media, the guided wave radar sensors are equipped with a gastight feed-through (second line of protection).

To ensure dependable maintenance and servicing, VEGAFLEX 81 has asset management functions
based on NE 107 recommendations. In addition, diagnostic information such as measured values,
events and echo curves are permanently saved in the sensor electronics.

And of course the sensors have all necessary ship approvals such as ABS, BV, CCS, RINA, DNV,
GL, LR, NK as well as explosion protection approvals, e.g. ATEX, FM, etc.

Vega New Product

VEGASWING 66 is a world first. It is VEGA’s latest addition to its portfolio of vibrating limit switches
for liquids. The instrument is designed for reliable, self monitoring, fail safe switching in applications
with process temperatures up to +450 °C and process pressures up to 160 bar.

Until now, the principle of the vibrating level switch has been limited to process conditions up to a
maximum of +280 °C and 100 bar. By using a new drive for the tuning fork of VEGASWING 66, VEGA has made deployment of the instrument possible far beyond these limits. VEGASWING 66 delivers a convincing performance with impressive values: process temperatures from -196° C to +450° C and pressures from 0 to 160 bar.

Since it is virtually unaffected by product properties such as product density, the vibrating level switch
can be used with hardly any restrictions. The sensor switches reliably and reproducibly when a certain
filling level is reached. Adjustment with medium is not required for setup. The integrated analysis and
monitoring capabilities allow certification according to SIL2 and steam boiler regulations.
Versatile and dependable.

Users benefit from the technical features in combination with the total self-monitoring of the sensor
and can be sure of highest system reliability – even in critical high-temperature and high-pressure
applications. In addition, the universal level sensor VEGASWING 66 saves a lot of time and costs
through its simple setup and commissioning.

The application range of VEGASWING 66 extends from distillation columns in the oil and gas
industry, to high and low water limits in steam boilers, to cryogenic applications in gas tanks for LNG
and nitrogen.

Standard approvals according to ATEX and FM for use in explosive gases and dust, as well as
versions as compact sensor or with tube extensions up to 6 m, round out the wide application
spectrum of this unique, new product.
