The 220km² reservoir on the Nan River feeds a network of irrigation canals. The powerhouse was completed with three sets and provision for a fourth unit. After some years, the fourth machine was authorized and was installed at a cost of ¥4,323mn with funding from JICA. It was Thailand's first multipurpose project and remains one of the largest concrete dams in Southeast Asia. The plant was extensively overhauled during the 1990s by VA TECH and others. JICA assisted with financing the rehab.
